iPhone 17 has not been released yet, there is information about ‘super chip’ on iPhone 18

Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently said that the A20 chip on iphone 18 models will be manufactured using TSMC’s 2nm process.

According to Kuo, TSMC’s 2nm test production process has now achieved a yield rate well above 60-70%. The yield rate refers to the percentage of working chips that can be obtained from each silicon wafer.

About 6 months ago, Kuo first said that the A20 chip would be manufactured on a 2nm process, and recently, analyst Jeff Pu also gave similar information.

Previously, there was a rumor that the A20 chip would still keep the 3nm process, but this information was retracted.

The A20 chip uses a 2nm process instead of 3nm, which means it will have more significant improvements in performance and energy efficiency compared to the A19 chip on the upcoming iphone 17 models.

Kuo, Pu, and many other experts believe that the A19 chip will be manufactured using TSMC’s third-generation 3nm process, known as N3P.

Moving from 3nm to 2nm increases the number of transistors on each chip, thereby improving performance.

Specifically, reports say the A20 chip will be up to 15% faster and up to 30% more power efficient than the A19 chip.

Note that these nanometer dimensions are simply TSMC marketing terms, not actual measurements.

The iPhone 18 models are still expected to be officially launched in about a year and a half. Meanwhile, the new iPhone series will be launched in September, including the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and the super-thin iphone 17 Air.
